Network Telescope

The New Zealand Honeynet Project has started to collect darknet data with several network telescopes. A network telescope monitors a portion of routed IP address for which no legitimate traffic exists. Traffic arriving at these, so called, darknets allows to infer certain security related network events, such as DoS, worm outbreaks, network scans, etc. The New Zealand Honeynet Project contributes the collected darknet data to REN-ISAC, the Research and Education Networking Information Sharing Analysis Center. Aggregated views of all the contributed data to REN-ISAC can be viewed on their monitors at http://www.ren-isac.net/monitoring.html
